How much should I insure my life for? 

The coverage amount depends on your personal financial situation, including:  

  • Outstanding loans (such as your mortgage, car loan or consumer loan).
  • Your income level and the financial protection needs of your family. 

We recommend choosing coverage that totals at least two years’ gross income. This will help ensure financial stability after the death of the insured person.  
 
The minimum coverage amount is 1500 EUR.

Adults aged 18 to 74 can be insured against the following risks: 

  • Life insurance – a lump-sum payment in the event of death.
  • Accident insurance, with the option to choose the following coverages: 
    • Death as a result of an accident.
    • Permanent disability.
    • Injuries and bodily harm (such as fractures or dislocations).
    • Coverage of medical expenses resulting from an accident.
    • Daily hospital allowance for inpatient treatment following an accident. 

Children aged 1 to 17 can be insured against the following risks: 

  • Accident insurance, which includes: 
    • Death as a result of an accident.
    • Disability.
    • Injuries and bodily harm.
    • Coverage of medical expenses.
    • Daily hospital allowance for inpatient treatment following an accident. 

The insurance contract can be concluded only by a Citadele Bank client; however, it is possible to insure family members or other individuals who are not bank clients themselves. 

When does my Life+ insurance coverage come into force? 

Life+ insurance coverage comes into force on the date specified in your policy.  

If payment of your first premium is not made within 15 days, the policy is cancelled on the date specified as the starting date.  

Can I change the terms of my Life+ insurance? 

Yes, it is possible to make changes to your policy. 

  • Once a month, you can increase or decrease the insured amount or the policy term. 
  • Once a month, you can add additional coverage, such as accident insurance. 
  • You can change or add beneficiaries at any time. 
  • You can terminate the policy at any time before the end of the term. 

To make changes, submit a free-form application through the online bank or signed electronically to life@cbl.lv. Include the changes you wish to make and your policy number. 

What should I do if an insured incident occurs? 

If you have accident insurance and an accident occurs: 

  1. As soon as possible, but no later than within 24 hours, visit a doctor, receive medical help, and comply with the doctor’s instructions.
  2. Inform the insurer.
  3. Submit a request for compensation.

Important! You should submit medical documentation confirming the accident and injuries. 

What documents are required to receive a claim payout? 

If the insured person has passed away: 

  • A filled-in application form. You can fill it in here.
  • A copy of your passport or ID card.
  • A copy of the insured person’s death certificate.
  • The inheritance certificate (if the application is submitted by an heir). 

Important! Compensation can be requested by the beneficiary (indicated in the insurance policy) or legal heirs. 
 
If there has been an accident or injury: 

  • A filled-in application form. You can fill it in here.
  • Documents issued by a medical institution which confirm the accident and describe the injuries (for example, broken bones or other health problems). 

Can I cancel my Life+ insurance agreement before it expires? 

Yes, you can cancel your agreement at any time. 

To do this, submit a free-form letter through the online bank or signed electronically to life@cbl.lv

If you have already paid your premium for the period after cancelling your agreement, we will refund this sum within 15 days.  

Where can I see my Life+ insurance policy? 

Your policy is always available in the online bank: Correspondence with the bank > Messages and notifications > CBL Life message > Download attachment

What happens if I miss a Life+ insurance payment? 

If you do not pay the insurance premium on time, your coverage may be suspended. If a covered event occurs during this period, the insurer will not be required to pay compensation. 

If payments are overdue for more than 6 months, the insurer has the right to unilaterally terminate the insurance contract. The insurer must inform you in writing that if the premium or a part of it is not paid within 30 days of receiving the notice, coverage will be suspended and will only be reinstated once the payment is made. 

How often do I have to pay my Life+ insurance premiums? 

You can choose the most convenient payment schedule for you: monthly, quarterly, every six months or annually. 

How quickly is the insurance benefit paid out? 

We do our best to review your claim within 30 days after receiving all the required documents. If needed, we may extend this period up to 6 months. Once the decision is made, your payment will be sent within 15 days. 

What does medical expense coverage include? 

Medical expense coverage offers financial support after an accident. Depending on your chosen plan – Standard or Premium – you may receive: 

  • A one-time payment up to 100 EUR or up to 300 EUR for medical services.
  • 50 EUR to 100 EUR for Lyme disease treatment.
  • In case of permanent disability up to 500 EUR or up to 1000 EUR for psychological support.
  • Up to 1000 EUR or up to 3000 EUR for home adjustments in case of permanent disability.
  • 150 EUR to 300 EUR if your child misses a camp due to an accident. 

Where to apply and what documents are needed if the insured person passes away? 

If the insured person has passed away, the beneficiary or legal heir must: 

  • Fill in the claim form here.
