Contactless payments

Do I need an internet connection to make payments through Google Pay?

Google Pay does not require an internet connection to make payments. However, to make a Google Pay payment, you need a valid token key that Google Pay downloads over your internet connection. If you don't have an internet connection and you've used up all token keys on your device, you won't be able to make a payment with Google Pay until your device is connected to the Internet and new token keys are downloaded.

When your device connects to the Internet, Google Pay will automatically download the character key if it's needed. After Google Pay downloads the new character keys, it may take some time before you can make a payment with Google Pay.

You must also ensure that NFC (Near Field Communication) and HCE (Home Card Emulation) technologies are enabled in the device settings.
